Renters after Covid

So you have not had enough money to pay your rent but the Government has prevented your landlord from evicting you. What happens when the eviction moratorium expires? If you want to keep living where you are living you will need to work with the landlord to catch up the rent. There are federal programs that may pay some or all of the rent, the rent not paid by the government will have to be paid. Bankruptcy can only help with amounts you currently owe. You will not be able to get rid of your outstanding debt and stay in your rental. So if you want to stay where you are, you should talk to your landlord to discuss how the back rent is going to be paid.
