BEWARE OF BANKRUPTCY AND IRS SCAMS

Recently I have become aware of a new scam.  People who have filed for Bankruptcy protection receive calls, allegedly from their attorneys office, advising them that one of their debts is non-dis-chargeable and asking them to wire money to the attorney to pay the debt or face jail time.  This is similar to the IRS scam which threatens people with jail time if they don’t wire money to pay for an outstanding tax debt.  Both my secretary and one of my clients received the phony IRS call.  Neither owed the IRS money.  I know of no Bankruptcy Attorney that would call a client asking them to wire money for a non-dis-chargeable debt.  For starters, once the Bankruptcy if filed, no one, not even the Federal Government can collect a debt you owe without the Bankruptcy Courts permission.  If you receive such a call, ignore it, then contact your attorney by Phone or email.
