You may be entitled to a State Property Tax Credit even if you have no income

Just because you don’t have to file State Income Tax does not mean you shouldn’t.  Many of my clients who receive only Social Security don’t file income tax, yet they may be entitled to a tax credit based on their property tax payment.  While many of those people are safe from Garnishment,  they still file Bankruptcy to avoid creditor harassment, or judgment liens on their property.  If you find yourself in debt on a fixed income, check with your tax preparer to see if you qualify for a property tax credit or go directly to the State Website at http://www.michigan.gov/taxes  There’s noting like found money.
